CIRCULAR RAILWAYS

Category: By ANIRBAN CHATTERJIE

10.15 AM – Completed a long pending work at HDFC Bank (Gillinder House)

10.33 AM – took a Circular Railway train from BBD Bag Railway Station to Dumdum, speaking of Circular Railways (for those who don’t know of its existence and for those who heard of it but unfortunately never travelled) I advice to take a ride. It’s an experience of a new kind, one you may not feel in your hustle bustle of your daily routine. A train ride just beside the River Hooghly.

Patipukur, Kolkata, Tala, Bag Bazar, Sova Bazar Ahiritola, Burra Bazar, BBD Bag, Eden Gardens, Princep Ghat, Khidirpur, etc. Yes if you didn’t know there are rail stations by these names.

For your reference:

* Patipukur – Rizwanur’s body were found here. * Tala Tank – RG Kar Hospital and * Kolkata Station - * Burra Bazar – through the godowns of Kolkata’s big market. * Beneath the Howrah Bridge and Hooghly Sety (yes actually right under it!) * Khidderpore Dock (you may catch a view of Ship making and repairing. * Elevated Bridge after Khidderpore (the curve is awesome and the view breathtaking)

My advice is taking a 3.36 pm Down Naihati Majherhat from Barrackpore which crosses Dumdum at 4.00 PM to reach Majherhat at 5. PM via the Circular Railways route (or Anti-Clockwise route). The timing is just perfect for you to enjoy the sunset by the River Hooghly. I used to particularly enjoy this one with …..

Tuhin Sir & Bawesh is the 2 most widely traveled persons I have known till date. Their experience and vast knowledge about travelling/places is unmatched. They have taught me things which are essential for life and for this I owe them Thanks forever.

**This post is an introduction to Circular Railways in Kolkata for those who don't know of it. Incase this interests you and you have further questions, kindly ask or do your research**

Dude the only prob wit circular railway is tht it has very few trains and some of the stations are situated in real odd places..I recommend tht if u really want to catch a good glimpse of the ganges and the surroundings..take a trip frm babughat to belurmath on the steamer..u may hav to change steamers thrice bt its worth the view..it hardly takes around 8 rupees per head for the whole trip n u can be onboard for around 1hour n 15 mins..instead of paying 300 bucks to the small boats for an hour of stagnant water ride its definately a much better option..try it smtime..its real fun..

Something to say?
